Tennesseans for Student Success Releases Legislative Scorecard

NASHVILLE – Tennesseans for Student Success today released their yearly TNSuccessCard Scorecard and launched statewide efforts to engage with all Tennesseans on education reform issues.

“Every year, our elected officials meet in Nashville to debate, create, and ultimately pass legislation affecting Tennessee’s students,” said Tennesseans for Student Success President and CEO Adam Lister. “We launched the TNSuccessCard to clearly and concisely inform voters of the work done in the Tennessee General Assembly to support the four policy priorities driving student success: high academic standards, an aligned assessment, more choices in public education, and accountability for everyone involved in the classroom.

Lister continued: “As we talk to Tennesseans across the state, over and over again they tell us education is their top priority. Over the past 14 months, we’ve conducted a large-scale outreach effort and spoken with over 140,000 Tennesseans. Among likely voters, 25% also believe improving public education is a top priority when casting a ballot, while 100% of those we spoke with rank “improving public education” as one of their top three issues this year. As constituents seek out information related to their elected officials, the TNSuccessCard Scorecard will continue to be an easy-to-navigate, helpful tool for informing decisions at the ballot box.

“Our classrooms deserve elected officials who advocate for student success. Whether by sponsoring legislation, pushing back against harmful amendments, or by serving as a strong, consistent voice for the policies that have led to Tennessee’s rise in national rankings, the people we send to Nashville must send a clear signal that education is their top priority. By evaluating their work in an open and honest manner, we know the TNSuccessCard will give their constituents a quick look at their dedication to student success.”

“Along with the TNSuccessCard, Tennesseans for Student Success will launch another air, data, and ground strategy over the next six months to ensure the 111th General Assembly is poised to continue the critical work to make certain every student in Tennessee has an opportunity to succeed. Committing $1M to the work, we are dedicated to engaging with Tennessee’s voters on the issue that matters most to our future.”
