Governor Lee and Winning Candidates Rewarded for Standing up for Students

NASHVILLE — Tennesseans for Student Success (TSS) released the following statement to congratulate Governor Bill Lee and other victorious candidates in tonight’s legislative races.

Leading up to tonight’s general election, polls showed Tennessee voters viewed education as the most important issue for our elected leaders to focus on, and those voters overwhelmingly support school choice. Governor Lee and a number of other winning candidates wisely chose to focus their campaigns on prioritizing students, empowering parents, and expanding education choices for families instead of divisive national political issues.

They were rewarded with strong support from voters.

“The election results we’re seeing tonight illustrate that voters will vote their priorities and will support candidates who prioritize improving and reforming public education,” said Adam Lister, President and CEO of Tennesseans for Student Success. “Governor Lee and many of tonight’s legislative winners championed students during the historic 112th General Assembly by passing a student-focused overhaul of school funding, teacher raises, student supports, and targeted interventions to improve literacy and overcome learning losses due to the pandemic. We congratulate their strong showing tonight and look forward to continued leadership in the years to come as they ensure all students have an opportunity for success.”

Tennesseans for Student Success is a statewide network of parents and caregivers, teachers, community leaders, volunteers, and advocates dedicated to championing and supporting Tennessee’s students and their futures.
