Innovating in Education

Public schools are lighthouses in the community, in families and in the lives of the students for whom they point the way to success. Every student, no matter their zip code, deserves to learn in a top-notch Tennessee public school that meets their individual needs and prepares them for their future.

Public Charter Schools - Fair Pathways to Authorization

This bill establishes conditions under which potential operators of public charter schools may apply directly to the Tennessee Charter Commission as their authorizer and additionally establishes conditions for replicating an effective public charter school model within the same LEA, as well as a pathway for public universities to apply to operate a public charter school. Ensuring that public charter schools receive a fair, standards-based review of their application supports innovation for all.

The Power of Innovation

When public education is free to innovate, the results can be astounding. Classrooms can adapt, teachers can transform and students can succeed. The opportunity to be innovative and meet student needs directly should be welcome in all Tennessee public schools.

Every Child’s Learning Path is Unique

Public education isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach to student success. Many students, teachers, and classrooms flourish in traditional public school settings. For others, there are increasingly viable paths to success, such as public charter schools, magnet schools, and academy models. STEM education and alternative public school settings should be an “all-of-the-above” approach to serving Tennessee students to the best of our ability.
