Charter Commission Approves High-Quality Public Education Option for Nashville Families

NASHVILLE — Tennesseans for Student Success (TSS) released the following statement to applaud today’s unanimous decision by the Tennessee Public Charter School Commission to support the wishes of families in Donelson and Hermitage by granting the appeal from Invictus Nashville Charter School.

“Earlier this year our organization conducted a thorough independent review of the application from Invictus Nashville and found it to be a high-quality public education option for families and worthy of approval. We’re happy to see the members of the Tennessee Public Charter School Commission agree with this analysis of the quality of this school and the need it will fill for Davidson County families,” said Adam Lister, President and CEO of Tennesseans for Student Success. “Today’s decision illustrates the importance of having a charter appeal process to ensure innovative public school options like Invictus are available to families who lack the resources to choose the best education for their child.”

Former Metro Nashville Public Schools teacher and East Nashville native Dr. Brenda Jones founded Invictus Nashville with the goal of serving the diverse community in Donelson and Hermitage. The public charter school will offer K-8 students an innovative Montessori learning model tailored to help each student find their unique path to personal and professional success.
