Four Lawmakers Recognized for Championing Students

NASHVILLE – Tennesseans for Student Success (TSS) honored four members of the General Assembly today for their exemplary work supporting students during this year's legislative session.

TSS created the Team Kid Hero Award in 2021 to acknowledge lawmakers who proactively sought to support and champion legislation for the betterment of all students. This year's awardees have done just that by leading and serving on education committees and taking a strong stand on key bills, including legislation that will provide fairness in the public charter school application process and the defeat of harmful legislative provisions that would have rolled back school transparency.

This year's awardees include:

·      Senator Dawn White (R-Murfreesboro)

·      Representative Charlie Baum (R-Murfreesboro)

·      Representative Robert Stevens (R-Smyrna)

·      Representative Lee Reeves (R-Franklin)

"Each of this year's Team Kid Hero awardees shares our passion for ensuring all Tennessee students receive a high-quality public education," said Lana Skelo, TSS President and CEO. "We'd like to thank these lawmakers for their tireless work protecting proven education policies and creating a Tennessee where public schools and universities are centers of excellence and innovation that equip students with the tools and skills to succeed in the workforce of the future."

Senator White chairs the Senate Education Committee. Representative Baum chairs the House Higher Education Subcommittee, and Representatives Stevens and Reeves serve on the House Education Committee.
