Lawmakers Encouraged to Make Historic Education Progress a Catalyst for the Future

NASHVILLE – Tennesseans for Student Success (TSS) is welcoming lawmakers from across the state who are reconvening the 114th General Assembly in Nashville today.

These legislators will serve as Governor Bill Lee completes his final year in office, and further cements his commitment to public education that has included a proactive response to pandemic learning losses, a historic investment in education funding and pay raises, needed modernization of the state’s education funding formula, and students outperforming the national average in math and reading for the first time.

“Tennessee leaders should seize the opportunity before them to make the historic progress students made during the Lee administration a catalyst for future achievement,” said Tennesseans for Students Success President and CEO Lana Skelo. “We look forward to working with lawmakers this year to provide public-school students with more opportunities and choices and further improve their pathways to college and career readiness. This critical work will send a strong signal to the next administration that the legislature remains laser-focused on student outcomes and setting Tennesseans up for success.”

The 114th General Assembly initially convened last January and adjourned in April. Last year's legislative session included the passage of legislation that provides fairness in the public charter school application process and the defeat of harmful legislative provisions that would have rolled back classroom transparency.
