Tennesseans for Student Success Applauds House Committee’s Advancement of Critical Education Legislation

NASHVILLE – Tennesseans for Student Success (TSS) today released the following statement after the State House Government Operations Committee voted to advance the Tennessee Investment in Student Achievement Act (TISA).

“We join parents, educators, and community leaders across the state in applauding the House Government Operations Committee’s vote of support to modernize Tennessee’s outdated system for funding public education,” said Adam Lister, President and CEO of Tennesseans for Student Success. “The current funding formula is three-decades-old, fails to address the needs of each student, and falls far short of ensuring every Tennessee child has the opportunity to lead prosperous lives after high school. The Tennessee Investment in Student Achievement Act is a generational opportunity to invest a billion dollars into public education and create impactful change in the lives of millions of students.”

The Senate Finance, Ways, and Means Committee is scheduled to take up TISA tomorrow and the House Finance, Ways, and Means Subcommittee will begin discussing the legislation next week.

To help educate the public about the importance of passing this legislation, TSS launched Fuel our Future this month. The website includes valuable information about TISA and a tool for voters to check to see if their representatives are standing up for all students by supporting TISA.

In conjunction, TSS launched a statewide video campaign today to explain how all students will benefit from TISA. Watch and share “The 90s are Over.”
