Tennesseans for Student Success Commends Elected Officials and Local Leaders for Supporting Legislation to Modernize Tennessee’s Education System

NASHVILLE — Tennesseans for Student Success (TSS) released the following statement to applaud important votes and endorsements of support for the Tennessee Investment in Student Achievement (TISA) Act.

On Tuesday, April 19, the State House Finance, Ways, and Means Subcommittee voted to support the needs of all students by advancing the TISA legislation. This vote followed the announcement of a diverse group of more than 100 local leaders officially endorsing the legislation.

“The resounding support TISA received this week at the capitol and in communities across our state is an undeniable sign that Tennesseans from all walks of life believe now is the time to modernize how we fund public education,” said Adam Lister, President and CEO of Tennesseans for Student Success. “The Tennessee Investment in Student Achievement will invest one billion new dollars into education.  This will fund teacher raises and create an environment that allows all students to learn and thrive.”

The full House Finance, Ways, and Means Committee and the Senate Finance, Ways, and Means Committee will both take up the TISA legislation next.

To help educate the public about the importance of passing this legislation, TSS launched Fuel our Future. The website includes valuable information about TISA and a tool for voters to check to see if their representatives are supporting the legislation.

Tennesseans for Student Success is a statewide network of parents and caregivers, teachers, community leaders, volunteers, and advocates dedicated to championing and supporting Tennessee’s students and their futures.
