Tennesseans for Student Success Congratulates Schools for Improvements on This Year's School Letter Grades

NASHVILLE – Tennesseans for Student Success (TSS) released the following statement to acknowledge the hard work that led to 65 more schools receiving an A on the state's 2024-25 School Letter Grades.

"The teachers, education leaders, and students who fueled the substantial growth of schools receiving the state's highest School Letter Grade have set a high bar for the future," said TSS President and CEO Lana Skelo. "Schools receiving an A must demonstrate strong achievement on state tests, along with student growth. Measuring both achievement and growth each year is a critical step to ensuring that Tennessee's public-school students are receiving a high-quality education that's putting them on the path to success."

In addition to the schools receiving an A letter grade, 483 schools received a B this year, just two fewer than last year's total.

The Tennessee Department of Education calculates School Letter Grades based on a school’s achievement, growth, and other factors, such as college and career readiness for high school students. The grades are designed to provide accountability for school districts and transparency for parents into how well public schools are serving students.

In the coming weeks, TSS will update its existing School Letter Grade Map to provide aggregated school district scores for the 2024-25 school year. Our mapping tool allows parents the ability to compare how school districts performed on the School Letter Grades.
