TENNESSEANS FOR STUDENT SUCCESS ON ESSA SUBMISSION
Plan to Bolster Opportunity for Success for Every Tennessee Student
NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Department of Education today released their updated and federally submitted Every Student Succeeds Act plan. Ensuring every student in Tennessee is ready for success in their next steps toward their college, career, or military choices, the ESSA plan focuses on accountability, school improvement, support for English learners and historically underserved populations, and strengthening teacher and principal pipelines.
“Tennessee’s students have twice been named the fastest improving in the nation in education and this plan is another strong step toward solidifying and strengthening continued student success,” said Tennesseans for Student Success President and CEO Adam Lister. “When you focus on accountability for everyone involved in the classroom, turning around failing schools, reducing test times, making sure every student has an opportunity to succeed, and supporting professional growth, you have a formula for success.”
Today’s plan contains six key updates which highlight the state’s focus on college, career, and military readiness for all Tennessee students:
-School Accountability
-District Accountability
-School Improvement
-English Learners
-Assessment Reduction
-Teachers, Principals Pipeline
Lister continued, “We are encouraged by the thoughtful engagement that went into the updated ESSA plan. Throughout this process over 5,000 comments were submitted by working groups, regional town halls, and from 1,000 Tennesseans. Tennessee’s ESSA plan, one of the best in the country, reflects the will and drive of Tennessee’s citizens to continue the work of continued student success.”
