Transparent Reporting to Build Trust
For students to succeed, there must be checks and balances on everyone who has a stake in the classroom. From legislators and administrators to students, educators, and community volunteers, everyone who plays a part in the success, growth and achievement of Tennessee’s students must be held accountable.
Elimination of Annual Teacher Evaluations
This bill would have eliminated annual evaluations for over ninety percent of Tennessee teachers, eliminating transparency in teacher effectiveness and depriving many educators of professional development and improvement opportunities.
Teacher Minimum Pay
Creates a mandatory pay raise structure which will increase minimum teacher pay to $50,000 statewide by 2026. The bill also prohibits payroll dedications for professional employee's organization dues.
Merit Pay for Teachers
Authorizes an LEA to adopt and implement a merit-based pay structure for educators to award additional compensation to high-performing educators and to incentivize educators to meet and exceed expectations.
Measuring for Success
Tennessee spends more taxpayer dollars on education than on any single other area; education spending makes more than 30% of the state budget.
So how do we uphold accountability in education? We measure for success. Whether it’s student assessments, school report cards, educator evaluations or scorecards for legislators, we measure what we want to see improve. Then we report those measures, making sure the tools for growth are available and every student has the opportunity to succeed.
