Five Elected Officials Honored for Raising Tennessee’s Education Standards

NASHVILLE — Tennesseans for Student Success (TSS) today honored five members of the Tennessee General Assembly for their exemplary support of Tennessee students in this year’s legislative session.

State Senators Jack Johnson (R – Franklin), Bo Watson (R – Hixon), and London Lamar (D – Memphis) join State Representatives William Lamberth (R – Portland) and Chris Hurt (R – Halls) in receiving this year’s TeamKid Hero Award.

TSS created the TeamKid Hero Award in 2021 to acknowledge those who proactively sought to support and champion legislation for the betterment of all students in Tennessee.

This year’s awardees are recognized in particular for their support of the Tennessee Investment in Student Achievement Act that passed the General Assembly earlier this month. Senator Johnson and Representative Lamberth are receiving the award for a second time after winning last year following their sponsorship of the Literacy Success Act.

“It’s important to recognize those elected officials who share our passion about the fundamental educational issues that directly impact all Tennessee students,” said Lana Skelo, TSS General Counsel and Vice President of Government Relations. “The five members of the General Assembly that we are honoring this year are truly going above and beyond to fight for our kids.”

Next Month TSS will continue its work to inform the public about where their elected officials stand on education issues through the release of the annual SuccessCard. It’s a helpful tool that evaluates members of the General Assembly based on how they voted on key education policies during legislative session.

Tennesseans for Student Success is a statewide network of parents and caregivers, teachers, community leaders, volunteers, and advocates dedicated to championing and supporting Tennessee’s students and their futures.
