Legislative Update – March 21, 2016

Because we’re anticipating more time outside, and we don’t want you glued to your gadget, we’ll make this brief: thank you. Every week we come to you with legislative needs for Tennessee’s students and every week you make time in your life for student success. We absolutely could not do this work without you. Thank you.

Before we let you go, we wanted to mention two bills that are quickly moving through the General Assembly. We are proud to champion and support both of these bills and look forward to letting you know of their eventual passage.

Senate Bill 2540 / House Bill 1537 – This legislation increases transparency and accountability for the state’s annual assessment while reducing the number of tests given to Tennessee students. It’s passed the House and is awaiting a vote in the Senate.

Senate Bill 2508 / House Bill 1419 – This legislation carries the amendment allowing Tennessee teachers to choose how annual assessment data will be used this year. It is up for a vote on both the House and Senate floor this week.
