Tennesseans for Student Success Applauds Bipartisan Support of Legislation to Modernize School Funding

NASHVILLE — Tennesseans for Student Success (TSS) released the following statement to commend both the House and Senate Finance, Ways, and Means Committees for voting in support of the Tennessee Investment in Student Achievement (TISA) Act.

The Senate committee voted 9 to 2 in favor of TISA Tuesday morning.  The House committee followed Tuesday afternoon on a voice vote.  TISA now moves on to a final vote expected later this week.

“In a political environment as divided as ours is, it’s important to recognize the bipartisan support the Tennessee Investment in Student Achievement Act has received in the General Assembly,” said Adam Lister, President and CEO of Tennesseans for Student Success. “Throughout the committee process, Democrats have joined with their Republican colleagues along with teachers, parents, and organizations from across the state to ensure all students have opportunities for success. We look forward to both chambers voting to pass TISA this week and moving Tennessee forward with a modern system to fund public schools.”

To help educate the public about the importance of passing this legislation, TSS launched Fuel our Future. The website includes valuable information about TISA and a tool for voters to check to see if their representatives are supporting the legislation.

Tennesseans for Student Success is a statewide network of parents and caregivers, teachers, community leaders, volunteers, and advocates dedicated to championing and supporting Tennessee’s students and their futures.
