TRISTAR READS: Art is Magic

Read Along with Rep. Rusty Grills as He Reads “Llama Llama Red Pajama”

With Father’s Day this weekend, Rep. Grills joined us this week to read with his daughter, “Llama Llama Red Pajama” by Anna Dewdney about the tale of a nighttime drama. Keep reading as we talk about ways to engage in art fun and learning at home with your student this summer.

Shout out to all the fathers who read aloud to their children! Thank you for connecting and bonding through reading.

Watch Representative Rusty Grills read here.

It’s never too late to sign up for Tristar Reads!

Spread the word and invite your friends to read with us.

Art is Magic

Art is a beautiful thing that brings us all together. Whether you’re a professional or it’s your first foray into the art world, you can also experience the joy of artistry.

While students are at home this summer, take the time to get creative and try out some of the ideas highlighted below. Read from the Artwork Archive some fun ideas and inspiration for art-making activities at home here. Additionally, the Art of Education University provides some helpful ideas, tips, and tricks in the age of coronavirus to keep kids entertained. Read more here.

Cassie Stephens, an art teacher at Johnson Elementary School in Franklin, TN has art lessons posted on her Instagram page. Explore all the variations of teaching she featured.  Catch children’s book author and illustrator, Mo Willems, as he welcomes you into his studio and guides you through drawing activities on YouTube.

ICYMI: Tristar Reads Team Leader Program

In case you missed it… for the first time, TSS launched the Tristar Reads Team Leader program.

This program expands the summer reading scholarship program to include an opportunity for parents, teachers, librarians, high school students, and community leaders to outreach in their community, and it can be done all online. Team Leaders are asked to recruit students to their team to read this summer. If Team Leaders succeed at recruiting new students to read, TSS will donate a percentage of funds to a literacy nonprofit, library, or school library in their community.
